congregational prayer
This page features three prayers suitable for a congregation to say during a church service. There are two
opening congregational prayer examples. The first one thanks God for His goodness and presence, the second is an
invocation asking God to move freely by His Holy Spirit. The
final prayer is a response to God's call to reach out to a hurting world, and may be appropriate to say after a sermon or message. There are also three beautiful
bible verses to inspire your worship.
Short congregational prayer
(A short prayer of thanksgiving suitable for near the beginning of a church service or worship meeting)
Dear Lord,
We lift your name high today, like a blanket of praise,
Thank you that you cover and embrace a fallen world.
Thank you for this grace, that flows endlessly to us each day.
Lord, we celebrate your love,
As we lay our burdens down at the foot of the cross.
Thank you that we can breathe in resurrection life,
Thank you that we are fully redeemed and restored.
Lord, today we drink in once again the hope of eternal life
And the promise of heaven.
Thank you for your presence.
Amen.
Invocation Prayer
Sample Opening Prayer For a Church Service or Meeting
Father, thank you that you have brought each of us safely to this place.
We gladly surrender our lives to you in worship and praise.
As we gather we remember those who are not with us today -
For those who are sick we ask for healing,
And for those away from us we ask for your blessing to be on them.
We invite Your beautiful Holy Spirit to move freely amongst us.
Come dwell in each of our hearts.
Equip us, challenge us, comfort us, teach us.
Inspire us as we learn more about your majestic ways.
Father, as we meet now may we behold Your beauty and encounter your grace.
We ask all this in the wonderful name of Jesus.
Amen.
"may you work through us to reach a hurting world"
a beautiful short prayer suitable for closing a church service with, inviting the equipping of the Holy Spirit for the week ahead:-
"With all my heart I praise the LORD,
and with all that I am I praise his holy name!
With all my heart I praise the LORD!
I will never forget how kind he has been.
The LORD forgives our sins, heals us when we are sick,
and protects us from death.
His kindness and love are a crown on our heads.
Each day that we live,
he provides for our needs
and gives us the strength of a young eagle.".
(Psalm 103:1-5, CEV)
My heart, O God, is steadfast,
my heart is steadfast;
I will sing and make music.
Awake, my soul!
Awake, harp and lyre!
I will awaken the dawn
(Psalm 57:7-8, NIV)
Congregational prayer example
(A prayer with elements of worship and response to God's call)
Dear God,
You made the earth on which we stand,
The air of which we breathe,
And the beauty in the sky we stand beneath.
How vast is your creativity,
How immeasurable is the delicate balance and detail in creation.
And yet you chase after us, like a shepherd watches sheep,
You know us by name and pour out grace through your redeeming love.
Father, you long for us to recognise your imprint on all we see,
To take hold of freedom from the prison of our humanity,
And to be redeemed to walk again with you.
Lord, let us now play our part in kingdom life,
May we take your light into the darkness.
May we give testimony to your redeeming work in our lives,
And love beyond the fringes of our own small lives.
Living by the Spirit, may you work through us to reach a hurting world.
Amen.
